I’m a bit of a late-adopter smartphone-wise, having only got rid of my faithful BlackBerry earlier this year and reluctantly switching to Android – so in many ways I’m still getting used to the idea of using apps beyond the obvious ones. This Christmas instead of heading to Les Coches as we usually do, we’re going to Les Gets with Crystal Ski Holidays as I’ve got a commission to write about some of the resort’s activities.
I’ve just had the blurb arrive with the usual holiday info which includes a suggestion that I download their free Ski Explorer app. So I did, and honestly, it looks brilliant. You select whatever resort you’re going to and it is has just about all the info you could possibly want when going to a resort you haven’t visited before – basics about things like where the supermarket and banks are as well as piste maps, maps of the resorts and restaurant recommendations.
There’s also a ski tracking device which tells you how far and how fast you’ve gone in a day, a “find my friends” facility which allows you pinpoint your friends and family on the mountain and recommended ski routes whatever your level.
And you don’t even have to have booked with Crystal to use it. I’m really looking forward to trying it out.
